Can't start The Bat! in sandbox?

When I try to start The Bat! in sandbox I get message

I know it is not configured to run sandboxed, that is why I am starting it in sandbox manually when I want it. Can't I?

You should go into Sandbox Settings > Applications > Email Reader and enable the checkbox for The Bat!

You should then go into Sandbox Settings > Applications > Folder and tell Sandboxie where your email files are located.

Then you can run The Bat under Sandboxie.

Noo you didn't really understand. I don't want The Bat! sandbox completely. Only on occasion. That is what I do with browser opera. I usually don't start it in sandbox and that is fine for me. But sometimes I start it in a the default sandbox. I want the same for e-mail client. I want to sandbox it only when I want it with "Run Sandboxed" in context menu.

That's what tzuk's instructions will allow you to do:
'Run Sandboxed' when you want to do that.
It also allows The Bat! to save emails out of the sandbox, assuming that you want that to happen.

"Programs that appear to perform email functions receive a warning that they have not been configured to run sandboxed, for the reason that emails that are downloaded into the sandbox will be lost when the sandbox contents are deleted.

The usual method of 'configuring' such a program is to use a File Access > Direct Access setting that specifies the program's .exe name, and the folder location (outside of the sandbox) where the email files are kept on disk. "

This is why you were advised to use the above settings.

I understand the requirement to configure direct access and all.

But I don't want to keep the emails I download in sandbox.

I want to use it like this. Usual usage of e-mail program - non-sandboxed. Usage sometimes - e-mail program used IN sandbox together with all its mail and settings. I don't want any new mail get out of the sandbox.

I can't seem to be able to explain. Most of the time - email client not sandboxed, used in usual way. Sometimes - sandboxed together with all new files it creates or modifies.

You know, I just don't want sandboxie to know that this is a e-mail client, I want sandboxie treat TheBat! as any other program.

Sounds like a recipe for losing your emails. Let me be clear that if at some point you get confused if you're in the sandbox or out of the sandbox and you lose your emails, this is going to be your sole responsibility. (Of course that would be your responsibility even with typical use.)

Now if you want to fool Sandboxie into thinking your email program is configured for running in the sandbox, you can remove the settings that you added for The Bat!, and then add a Direct File Access setting for thebat.exe to some random file in some random folder that doesn't exist.

I found another workaround - just renamed the executable of TheBat! to something else and sandboxie doesn't know this is TheBat! anymore.

I think you shouldn't completely restrict running a e-mail program in sandbox manually. You could just show a warning once and still allow it to start in sandbox.

I completely understand how sandboxie works, and that e-mails downloaded in sandbox will stay in sandbox and get deleted unless I use direct access setting or recover them by hand. But this is not the case only for e-mail but all other files created or modified by sandboxed programs, e.g. browser history etc.
