Can you say what exactly didn't work? Did the cacls command give error, or did it work fine and then the delete still failed?

Also I have a second suggestion, to try again the command prompt, but use these commands instead:

Code: Select all

c:
cd \sandbox
cacls *.* /T /G Everyone:F
This time the cacls should process a lot of files and hopefully when it's done you will be able to delete the sandbox folders.

Oh, I didn't realize there was still confirmed spyware in those folders - I thought they were removed with SuperAntispyware. Leave them in the sandbox then. Sometimes the easy ways get overlooked, did you try 'Terminate Programs' from the Sandboxie menu? Then 'Delete Contents' from the same menu.

Ok guy these are the news.....ROLL OF DRUMS....I delete 2 of 3 folders!!

tzuk: I tried again (the first one I have no response from the command prompt) with the command prompt and the new sequence, cacls have process a lot of files but at the and it said that the syntax of the file's name, of the directory or of the volume is incorrect. So I have tried to delete the folders and I've removed 2 of them (obviously the remained folder is that with the spywares inside!).

I also tried to modify the properties of the folder (it said it was in read mode) but I have had no success, or I have had success in almost all modifying the subfolders but some of them are jammed (is this the correct word??)

MitchE323: I have uninstalled Sandboxie yesterday. I believed that Superantispyware had removed them but I was wrong. I tried again but when I rebooted after the cleaning I couldn't load Windows, so safe mode again, restore point again and finally I could log in. And the spyware are still inside that... folder

However now the time of boot is now looooonger than before.

Finally. Deleted. Erased. Destroyed. All of them!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

After the partial success of yesterday I've still retried different times with the command prompt . It processed a lot of files but at the end it said always that “the syntax of the file's name, of the directory or of the volume is incorrect”. Then I’ve tried to log in safe mode again, command prompt again and it said this time “Access denied”. I rebooted and logged in safe mode and tried with command prompt for three times but nothing. Resigned by now to not be able to free me more of those folders I logged in in normal mode and I tried for the last time with command prompt. Now the surprise. No warning message. No Access denied. No name incorrect. And they are finally GONE.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks to everybody of the precious help and the shown patience. :D :D

Excellent. Also thank you for the final update. In future versions of Sandboxie I will consider adding "cacls" to the Delete Sandbox process. Looks like it could save some trouble in some cases.

Thanks Tzuk I don't know how I would have done without assistance. I have saved and framed the command prompt sequence (it is better to have it and not to use it whether not to have it and to need it)

Now I try to install again Sandboxie and I see if everything is all right.

Thank you again. :D

the only thing i did to solve this was to make sure no messenger programs are running, if you reboot your computer and try to delete the sanboxie and it doesnt work then the messenger probably starts on start up. i recomend having as little as possible of unnessary programs start up

Here's how I check the Startup Programs Running on my computer:
(im not talking about the start up folder that can be found in the Start>all programs menue )

Go to Start (lower left corner)
Click on Run
Type in msconfig
Hit Enter or OK

You will now see a screen called the System Configuration. You should be on the General tab so click the Startup tab to see what programs are scheduled to run at startup. If you have had your computer for
quite some time and never checked on your Startup Programs before you'll probably
be shocked to see how many are running.

however i cannot express enough many Startup programs are critical to running your computer - don't disable them unless you know for sure they're not necessay.

hope this may of helped :D

following this with great interest. not exactly my situation, but maybe related, who knows? mine is covered in the reghive locked post here
http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopi ... highlight=
if so, more power to Tzuk for containing a nasty!

am waiting for reghive lock to happen again so can run process runner on it, as suggested there. -- actually hoping it won't won't happen again, but never know - hasn't since last posted....

would the command box suggestions here be another possible fix for the reghive situation if it arises?

to help with startup entries, your computer's settings, etc I recommend Winpatrol. (I use WP Plus, 1 time purchase, allows you to save your own notes on running, startup items, research easily. also I believe the excellent sw authors who create fine products I rely on heavily -- such as sandboxie and winpatrol -- deserve to be paid)

unable to delete contents

Post by Tomass » Sun Oct 16, 2011 9:03 pm

This is how I also am unable to delete contents by trying to download adobe flash player as a test.

I am runing Windows XP SP3 as administrator. I downloaded and installed Sandboxie version 3.60
I went to "Sandbox-->Default box-->Run Sanboxed-->Run Web Browser"
Internet Explorer 8 opened and I went to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
I unchecked the box "Yes, install Google Toolbar - optional"
I clicked "Download now"
I saved "install_flashplayer11x32ax_gtbd_aih.exe" to the desktop. I close IE8.
I selected "Sandbox DefaultBox-->Explore Contents"
I the program "install_flashplayer11x32ax_gtbd_aih.exe" as Sandboxed.
Adobe Flash Player Installer Then starts downloading files for Flash Player 11.
I then have a warning from Adobe Flash Player Installer, "Please close the following programs to continue. Internet Explorer"
IE is not open and I press "x" to close the window. I then have the warning, "Stop installing all applications?" and I select "YES"
IE pops open again and I close it.
I select "Sandbox Default box-->Delete Contents" It shows "There are no files to recover at this time."
It does show, "There are 293 files and 43 folders in the sandbox, occupying 20MB bytes of disk space."
I select "Delete Contents" A warning box opens "Delete Sandbox DefaultBox: Could not move the sandbox folder out of the way. The object (file or folder) may be in use by another program. Close any applications or windows that may prevent the access. System Error Code: Access is denied. (5)

One Program to rule them all, One Program to confine them, One Program to wrest them all and in the sandbox bind them.

file locks on REGHIVE

tzuk wrote:Occasionally people report this problem but so far I've never been able to figure it out. The sandbox folders are created with no access controls, which in effect gives access to everyone on the computer.
I encounter the same problem quite often, too, but not always. The cacls stuff has nothing to do with it imho.

Marc Russinovitchs' process explorer tells me that the main "System" process has two file locks open within the sandbox at hand: RegHive and RegHive.LOG. I assume these locks are responsible. However I don't know where they come from. I use winXP SP3.

I really hope this might help this nagging problem.

I don't have a delete contents failure very often these days, but having "System" locks on files in a sandbox was something that I couldn't figure out.
Since Delete Contents always tries to delete sandboxes that failed to delete previously, you may find that the sandboxes do get deleted at a later time, after whatever locks were on them are removed. Certainly after any reboot, and then another use of Delete Contents for any sandbox.
