Foreground

Post by iammmike » Thu Jan 12, 2017 5:54 am

Guys,

strange issue.

Running a program Sandboxed (Forced Programs), it sits in the Taskbar and I have to click to give it focus and come to the foreground.
Running the same program (unsandboxed) it's in the foreground and has focus.

How do I start the Program? double click on for example a JPG and Irfanview (associated with JPG) starts

OS: Win 8.1
Programs example: Irfanview or SumatraPDF
Sandboxie: 5.16

Thx in advance

Edit: I found a topic approx similar to mine, but no solution

iammmike,

I installed SumatraPDF on Win 8.1 and set it to Forced. When I launch it, it opens up fine.
Can you provide more information regarding anything else that might be running when you launch these applications?

Also, do you have "Always on top" enabled? Do you all your apps present this issue?

Please try a new Sandbox to see if the problem happens there too.

Barb.-

Hi Barb,

Thx for trying.

Did you try to launch SumatraPDF (forced Program) by opening a PDF ? Which then launches SumatraPDF ?

Because, when I right click SumatraPDF (the EXE) and select "Run Sandboxed" it will come to the foreground and has focus.

I deleted the Sandbox and created a new one (copied settings from Default Box) and same result
I deleted the Sandbox and created a new one (DIDN'T copy settings from Default Box) and same result
I Disabled my VirusScanner (Emsisoft AM) and same result.
Tried with Always on Top, same result
Only (at the moment) have 4 programs running Sandboxed (FORCED) (FF, FDM (Downloader), Irfanview, Sumatrapdf)

Thanks again,
Mike

iammmike,

I tried both (from pdf, and directly from the application) and I am not able to reproduce the issue. Sumatra opens the pdf file normally.
Does it happen for every pdf file that you try to open?
http://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/settings3.2.html those are the default Sumatra settings, see if yours match.

I'll check out Irfanview later and see if I can replicate the issue there.

Hi Barb,

I have uninstalled Sumatra and removed all settings, reinstalled same result, even tried with portable, same result.
same with Irfanview (uninstalled, reinstalled, removed settings) same result.
Even tried Notepad++ (set it forced) and same result

So it must be something on my machine. No idea what (yet)

Thanks for the help, but you can close this topic as it (IMO) has nothing to do with Sandboxie, but something quirky on my Machine

I might be completely off base here but with Win8/10 I noticed this issue sometimes (even without sandboxie) when the explorer option 'Launch folder windows in a separate process' was checked. Doesn't happen in 7 though :-/ Doesn't make sense to me and I may be wrong on that count all together but in the limited tests where I noticed it that was the one that stood out. I tended to do the changes in groups though so perhaps it was something else I did around the same time. Anyway, drunken thoughts over.

UPDATE---> If I launch applications/files via Total Commander, Sandboxed ones will go in the background (this is noticeable if you are running Total Commander in Full Screen mode).
Is this what you are seeing, iammmike ? If so, you can try running Total Commander Sandboxed, see if that works for you.

Hi Syrinx,

I tested the option 'Launch folder windows in a separate process' but it did not trigger the issue.
I got a PM from the user stating that Total Commander might be causing the issue, I will test that and see how it goes.

Hi,

Yes I have tested that (running TCMD Sandboxed) and the PDF, TXT, Image etc will then run in the Foreground.

Do you have any idea what's causing this, as I'm not sure that I want to run TCMD Sandboxed.

Hello iammmike,

The current workaround would be to run TC Sandboxed, or run TC in a small window so you can easily find the applications that you are launching.
I've made the devs aware and I will let you know if they have anything else to add.

Regards,
Barb.-
