FIX for printing in Browser/adding folder/program exceptions

Post by Unknown_User_862 » Wed Jul 11, 2007 8:25 pm

Ive went ahead and edited the configuration in sandbox to allow a "whitelist" persay for my printer to work through a sandboxed firefox. all I did was enter "configuration" in the sandbox panel, clicked on "edit configuration" and it gave me "sandboxie.ini

You need to find "[DefaultBox]" midway down and find where it starts "OpenFilePath=...." these are exceptions to sandbox.

You can add another OpenFilePath on a new line and type: "OpenFilePath=C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\" (For XP, it may be different for other OS's) without quotes. I found that this works with my dell printer 720. It pretty much allows everything within windows/system32/spool to be unsandboxed.

Note that you will have to close firefox or any other program you plan to use this method on, and save the .ini file and then close, then click "Configuration" again, and then click "reload configuration" otherwise it wont work.

I also added an exception to my drive E:\ (2nd partition) because that is my download drive in which firefox copies files from the internet to. Before I added "OpenFilePath=E:\", the files would be sandboxed and would remain hidden. I didnt want my E drive to be sandboxed, so it was added as an exception, and then refreshed from "configurations".

If your printer needs other programs to print, just add them as an exception with the OpenFilePath= and then the folder path to it. Remember to add a backslash after the end of the path, otherwise it wont work.

Hope that helps!

For all other folders you wish to put in as exceptions, use the OpenFilePath= beginning and then type to path to that folder (note that all subfolders of the folder you allow will be unsandboxed, therefore it makes no sense to allow "C:\" alone since it would allow your whole C drive assuming your OS is on the C drive. Specify the path all the way down to the last file to be safe.
