C:\Sandbox Question

Post by turbo » Fri Oct 19, 2012 5:39 am

I am having a hard time undertanding why the C:\ takes up so much memory, however my hard drive properties dont actually show that much space taken.

For example, my hard drive properties show 220 Used, but when I right click on sandboxie and click properties, its over 300GB

Why is it doing this?

Also, if I delete a file outside of sandboxie, will it be removed inside? The reason being is that I erased a file outside of sandboxie but when browsing inside sandboxie it was still there.

Regards

When you invoke the Delete Contents of Sandbox command, it goes through the contents and calculates the size of the sandbox. What number does it show you?

The "C:\Sandbox" folder cannot use more hard disk space than is used in "C:\" .
Plus, I seriously doubt that you use 300 GB of hard disk space in C:\Sandbox.
Maybe you mean 300 MB.

Try installing and running WinDirStat to get a good idea of which folders take up the most space on C:
Select C drive when the program starts, and wait for it to analyze the drive.

The top part of the window shows the details, and the bottom part shows a graphical representation of the files.
Click on a folder or file at the top, and see it outlined in the graphic.
Or, click on the graphic to see the file details at the top.

If you delete a file that's outside of the sandbox, a copy of it could still be inside of the sandbox.
If a file that's outside of the sandbox gets copied into the sandbox, perhaps because a sandboxed program modifies it, then deleting the copy outside of the sandbox doesn't affect the copy that's inside of the sandbox.
