Re: Firefox 51.0.1 - Blank pages

Hi,
I had the same problem! Win8.1 64bit, Sandboxie 5.16 64bit, Firefox 51.0.1 32bit.
When i open Firefox in Sandboxie i get a blank page. When i open a second tab
i get the same result, but when i then open the first tab again i see the right
content of the site!

So i do the workarounds who described here, it doesn't work!

Hope you can help!

Best regards

Egge

Hello Egge ,

Have you double checked that e10 is disabled? (Do these steps in a non-sandboxed Firefox, then relaunch it to ensure the changes were applied):
type about:config
accept the risk
set "browser.tabs.remote.autostart" and "browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2" to FALSE

If the issue persists, follow these steps:
Type "about:config"
Accept the risk.
Search for security.sandbox.content.level
Double click and change to 0

Barb.-

Hi Barb!

Firefox in Sandboxie is working now, at least
i had to delete the contents of Sandboxie
after changing the workarounds!

So, now is all ok!

Thanks a lot! :D

Firefox update produces frozen effect of webpages

Post by alphadeath » Wed Feb 01, 2017 4:21 am

Firefox just updated to 51.0.1 32bit, browser opens to a blank page when opening and will go to google when pressing the home button. Everything works fine outside the sandbox, but when opening inside sandbox the browser freezes and all actions do not actively show up on the screen but are still working without being seen. The screen freezes on the last image shown, opening to a blank page stays a blank page after hitting the home button, the address will change but the web page does not show, going to google and typing something to search for will change the address again to a google search results page and still be stuck on the original image of the blank page or whatever image it got last. Opening a new tab and switching between tabs will refresh the image and instantly freeze again. You can click on a frozen link not see it load and switch tabs back and forth to see where it is at now. Scrolling down the page also does not work and must switch tabs back and forth to refresh the frozen image, while reloading the page does nothing. Videos will play after you find the play button trough tabbing and press play and tab once more and it will play video that moves and has sound but the web pages still do not show current or live data such as scrolling, new web pages, or other non video visual data. I uninstalled sandboxie and reinstalled. Updated sandboxie to latest version available without keeping any of my old sandboxie settings. I updated adobe flash player for firefox. Nothing I have done has fixed the issue. I will unistalled firefox and find an older version for now but the issue remains and I have no idea what it is from other then the update that caused it, with errors happening immediately after. I even removed all sandboxie folder locations in the uninstall process. Seems to have a version conflict of some significance. I am running windows 8.1 and sandboxie works fine in a sandboxed internet explorer, so it is just Firefox ver. 51.0.1 that has the issue. Thanks for looking into it. :)

My sandboxie keeps saying "Problem Loading Page" on the tab

Post by horen » Wed Feb 01, 2017 3:32 pm

It started about 2 days ago; I got some error messages (I regret not being able to keep track of them) and since then, my Sandboxie won't load my browser at all and it says "Problem Loading Page" on the tab.

My Sandboxie is Version 5.16 (64-bit)
My antivirus is Norton Security
My Sandboxie is for Windows 10 (I know this because on the front page, I clicked the link that said it was available for Windows 10)
The browser I use with my Sandboxie is Firefox 51.0.1 (32-bit)

Hello horen,

Please check the current workarounds for Firefox (see posts above) and give them a go.

Let us know if that helps.

Barb.-

Hello everyone, well I came here to create a new thread, all frustrated cause I only get blank pages in Firefox, and what do I discover lol :D

Nice to be a part of a crowd, there was some serious hair pulling-out going on!

Anyhow I've followed Barb's instructions, after (only) changing "browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2" to FALSE seemed to be enough.

"browser.tabs.remote.autostart" was already set to FALSE.

Can I ask, when I opened up both areas of config, there was already 'user set' adjustments in place, even though this was a brand new portable installation. Please see 2x screenshots. In both cases this is how I found it, despite a brand new installation. Seems a bit suspect?

Anyhow, after the one adjustment Firefox is running normally again.

Win8.1 laptop, portable Firefox, installed outside the sandbox.

Many thanks, look forward to an update (and thanks for great software) 8)

Hi Cutledge

IMO there is nothing to worry about.

The Temp Dir Suffix is (again IMO) unique for every PC so that's why it has changed, I believe it's done on installation or on First Startup of Firefox.

But I have no idea why Autostart.2 has already been set, maybe because of some Add-on ?

If you would like a more definitive answer maybe ask at the forum ? http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=38

Hi again,
Will setting the security.sandbox to 0 and browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 to FALSE seriously impact the security of firefox if I run it OUTSIDE of sandboxie?
I'm asking the question, cause I use firefox a lot exactly in that way and I wouldn't want to change settings permanently if it means compromising security in a serious way.

Thanks for that. I'm just happy that Firefox is running again. However I was never quite sure where to turn for FF support, so really appreciate the link.

security.sandbox = 0
will definitely decrease security without Sandboxie (possibly to a significant degree), as it disables Firefox's own somewhat-sandbox-like features and possibly other
mitigations as well (ASLR, DEP, etc.). At least this can be inferred from the FFX wiki: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Security/Sandbox

They haven't implemented a full sandbox yet, the maximum recommended level for this setting is 1 at this time, but Firefox's own Sandbox will become stronger and more restrictive over time,
leading to the levels 2 and 3 in the foreseeable future.

browser.tabs.remote.autostart = FALSE & browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = FALSE will not directly lower your security in my opinion. They only enable/disable the multiprocess architecture
(separate processes for web content, main program ans so on). So I would recommend trying to set these two variables to FALSE first, and NOT to touch the sandbox level
if not absolutely necessary. For me, disabling multiprocess is enough for FFX 51 to work with sandboxie, I did not have to touch the sandbox level!

I think that over time, with Firefox's own sandbox evolving, its sandbox-like features and the multiprocess architecture will become completely dependent on one another (i.e. you won't be able to
have sandbox-like features in FFX without the multiprocess architecture also being enabled).

Bottom line: This whole issue will have to be looked at thoroughly by Sandboxie's developers and fixed with care.
It might be a bit tricky. So give them some time...

Thanks Barb, I appreciate the help. The setting browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 was user set to True, changing it to false did the trick. I didn't need to use the other fixes. I however have never changed this setting before personally, so I am not sure how it was user set unless it is a setting changed by an auto system detection feature during the installation of Firefox.
