Yes, please try the Internet Explorer settings and let us know if that alleviates the issue (otherwise, please follow the steps provided to make a recording so that we can have a look at what's going on).

Hello- again sorry for the delay. I will repeat I don't have IE on this computer got rid of it a long time ago. Searched for TLS don't have it can't find it.
You asked for a screen shot of the control panel and I've tried now to send one but since the list is longer than one screen I tried to make a pdf or odt and that's not allowed so what is allowed?
And once I try to upload a jpg of the first half the site refuses "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached" which is more that irritating since I haven't as far as I know been able to attach anything.

But without the list for you there is nothing that you have suggested previously that should interfere with the connection.
Still stuck.

Hello SimpleSimon,

Internet Explorer is part of Windows, how did you remove it exactly? You will need to access it to try the steps I provided. The fact that you haven't used it in a long time might explain why the settings aren't correct.
Please, try these steps to launch Internet Explorer:
Click on Start.
Type "run" (without quotation marks), a new window will pop-up.
Type "iexplore.exe" (without quotation marks).
Click OK.
Internet Explorer should launch and you should be able to follow the previous steps to correct TLS settings.

As for the screenshot, let's try a video instead. Please follow these steps:
Open Problem Steps Recorder by clicking the Start button , and then typing "psr" (no quotation marks).
Click Start Record.
Reproduce the issues (you can also show us what happens when you try to launch Internet explorer).
Click Stop Record.
In the Save As dialog box, type a name for the file, and then click Save (the file is saved with the .zip file name extension).
If the file is too big to send via email, please upload it to a free file hosting website, and send the link to support@sandboxie.com

Hi Barb,

It's a little unnerving to acquire licenses that can't be activated during installation due to a reported failed internet connectivity when there actually is connectivity. I wasn't sure if this question belonged in an activation section or here but since the 12031 error prevented activation I chose here. I researched the internet and the whole forum but really couldn't find anything for 12031 during an valid connection. I scanned some of your replies and Internet Explorer (IE) seems to be implicated in some cases.

Is IE required to activate a license; such that, if it has been uninstalled (as on my W7 Pro x64), then the 12031 error will prevent online (offline worked for me) license activation as it did in my case. I'd like to know because I have 4 more licenses to install for my family and I'm not sure offline will work for the rest of the PCs. If IE is NOT required then I'm prepared to send you background and config info to help me troubleshoot the problem. Thanks, tj

Hello Sucata,

Sanboxie needs to communicate with the server in order to validate your key. The error message listed in this thread is related to something on your system blocking access to said server.

There are 2 main things to try in order to solve the problem:
Find what might be blocking access (Antivirus, Firewall, etc...):

And/or check your Internet Settings to see if you have TLS disabled.
Hit Windows Key + R
Type "inetcpl.cpl" (no quotation marks)
Go to the Advanced Tab (top), and scroll down until you find the Security Section (or just scroll all the way to the bottom).
Find "Use TLS" check TLS 1.0
Hit Apply, Hit Ok.

OR
From the Advanced tab
Click on "Restore Advanced Settings"
Hit Apply, hit Ok

I forgot to ask, Barb. Trying not to bug you; again, I searched but couldn't find: I setup secure erase for the default sandbox with the Erase 6.0 button. The pepperoni pizza slice on the tray turned to a red "X" and never has returned to the triangle. Is that as it should be.

Also, when erasing I like to see a progress bar but I guess none here because of Erase running from the cmd line internally, right? So, the only confirmation is when I go to folder view and see "none" for files in the default sandbox then that's the only way to known the erasure is done and exit can proceed from the tray icon? I've got to understand this stuff to boil it down procedurally for the rest of the family (and the dozens of ?s that will follow). Thanks, tj
