Symantec / Norton 360 - Unable to launch web browsers

Post by tuppington » Tue Sep 05, 2017 11:39 am

Having same issue here. Up until recently everything would run normally.

I run Chrome and Opera sandboxied, it starts up SandboxieRpSc.exe, SandboxieDcomLaunch, chrome.exe/opera and then finally... werFault.exe. The browser window doesn't open at all.

I'm running windows 10.

also:
Windows Defender
Norton Antivirus
Webroot Secure

I'm going to keep trying old versions cause that worked last time I had an issue.

Re: Web browsers (only) not working

Post by coffeecup25 » Fri Sep 08, 2017 10:03 am

I have the same problem on two pcs. The first appeared a couple of days ago. The 2nd a few minutes ago. No browsers work in the sandbox although minor programs still sandbox. No error messages appear. Just a blue spinning circle then nothing. RegHive has a folder but nothing else. I Terminate all programs in sandbox to exit.

The sandbox is in a 2GB ramdisk and clears on exit. It has worked that way for years without issue.

I tried the fix noted above by inserting the code in sandbox settings. It did not work. I use Norton 360 and have for many years without any problems. No AVG.

No Windows updates have occurred on either pc. Windows 10 pro newest version. Nothing has changed that is obvious to the best of my knowledge.

1) I uninstalled and reloaded Chrome. It flashed a SBIE2335 error message. Subsequent attempts to use Chrome were like the others - nothing happens.

2) I tried using Comodo Dragon. I installed it a few minutes ago. It appears to be working normally at this time. Sandboxed as default browser.

Hi all,
with my installation the browsers (Internet Explorer and Firefox) also no longer start under Sandboxie. I get no SBIE error message, but i get an application error message. For example the error Massage, if i start with Firefox is the following:

___________________________________________________________
Firefox.exe - Anwendungsfehler
Die Anwendung konnte nicht korrekt gestartet werden (0xc0000142).
___________________________________________________________

The error is for me abrupt, no additional software has been installed - possibly caused by software updates?

Windows 10 Pro (64 bit)
SBIE v5.20 (64 bit)
Firefox 55.0.3 / IE 11.0.45
Norton Security Online mit Backup 22.10.1.10

Regards, in hope for quick solutions
Tom

Also having this issue.

I updated firefox to the latest version, and also downloaded the latest sandboxie beta yesterday. I had fixed the issue until today, when it randomly started again.

I see no error messages or anything, firefox just never opens.

windows 8.1
sandboxie 5.21.2
norton 360 (22.10.1.10)

I ran the browser once with Admin privileges (inside sandbox), closed the browser (sandbox set to automatically delete contents), and now it opens normally again, using desktop icon/taskbar/whatever.

I tried this morning the above described with a (1.) a start from the SB as admin and (2.) then a start from the IE inside the box.

1) IE starts not in SB *)
2. After this i try again (without closing SB / SB Prozesses): IE starts not, but i get SB error message (Symerr or similar message has no right for Internet acccess).
3. Then i try again (without giving rights for the symeerr): Then IE starts at once, work fine in the box.
4. But after a computer restart IE start not again.

*) By the way IE start always without a error message, only the window is not visible / opend, the process is visible in the windows task manager.

The whole test above works only with the IE and not with Firefox (Firefox start the most time with the described error massage (0xc0000142), but sometimes i does'nt get a error message (window is not visible / opend)

!!! NOTHING WORKS AT THIS TIME !!!

I wasn't able to replicate any issues using a trial of norton premium last I tried. I'll reinstall Win10 (May take a while to re-install and update) then try again shortly.

Update:
I'm sorry but I still cannot reproduce any (new) problems with Norton, SBIE & Browsers here.

Windows 10 CU x64 (fully updated)
Sandboxie 5.21.2
Norton Security 22.10.1.10 (Left at default settings)

IE 11.540.15063.0 Updates Version: 11.0.45 (KB4034733) (x64) worked perfectly even with the Norton Toolbar addon & Identity Safety addon installed
IE 11.540.15063.0 Updates Version: 11.0.45 (KB4034733) (x86) worked perfectly even with the Norton Toolbar addon & Identity Safety addon installed
Chrome 61.0.3163.79 (x64) would get the expected GUIPROXY/coNatHost.exe, Win32Init.2, GdiInit.C0000017 errors with the Norton addons installed.
Chrome 61.0.3163.79 (x64) ran fine without the addons installed
Firefox 55.0.3 (x64) would get the expected GUIPROXY/coNatHost.exe, Win32Init.2, GdiInit.C0000017 errors with the Norton addons installed.
Firefox 55.0.3 (x64) ran fine without the addons installed

If you can think of a setting to try toggling or something else that might be involved, please let me know so I can retest again.

Thanks for info. Both FF and IE wont work sandboxed (instant Werfault) but Google earth Pro works sandboxed. Thats weird.

Windows 10 64 bits, Sandboxie 5.20 and Norton Security 22.101.10.

Foud the problem: Norton Exploit Prevention-setting. Turned it OFF and FF and IE11 started sandboxed without a problem.

Norton > Settings > Firewall > Intrusion and Browser Protection > Exploit Prevention set to OFF.

Glad you found something that helped but sadly I STILL cannot produce any problems with this setting enabled (it is by default, apparently)

I just started having this issue. I've been successfully using the product for months without issue.
The Run Web Browser feature appears to start (no error messages are issues) but nothing happens.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling Sandboxie.. no help.
I was playing around with settings in Sandboxie and somehow got it to work once but can't remember or reproduce that success.

Sandbox shows:
SandboxieRpcSs.exe
SandxieDcomLaunch.exe
iexxplore.exe

My system:

Edition : Windows 10 Home
Version : 1703
OS build: 15063.540

Sandboxie : 5.20 (64bit)

Internet Explorer 11
Version 11.540.15063.0
Update Versions 11.0.45 (kb4034733)

Anti-virus
Norton 360
Version:
22.10.1.10

I was able to start the web browser function successfully by turning off the Exploit Prevention setting in the Norton firewall section but I don't think this is a good solution as it opens up your system to exploitation.
