Firefox.exe..........System canot find file
Moderator: Barb@Invincea
Well, I've had time to think about it, or for someone else to have a clue as to why Sandboxie's "Run Any Program" wouldn't show Firefox.exe, when you Browse to the Firefox program folder.
I can understand not showing a program's extension, but not the programs entire name.extension.
The only thing that comes to mind is to try some of the free on-line malware scans that are available. Some malware is capable of doing that.
Most require the use of IE with ActiveX enabled:
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/ax/
http://www.ewido.net/en/
are just a few of those available.

Well, a very very long time ago I had an exe that Sandboxie couldn't 'see'. It was a program that I had installed and then just copied the files and folders to a stick and used it like that. I can't remember the program though, and every exe on my computer currently Sandboxie has no trouble with. That earlier instance could also have been my lack of experiance with Sandboxie, I have no way to even begin to reproduce it. Also, I have never heard of it with Firefox. I sorta think it was resolved by using the shortfilename. But here, I am fresh out of ideas.
Well, I still haven't given up on my problem and I'll be damned if I'm going to reformat. Anyway, I have another piece of the puzzle I need someone to explain.
Navigating via the following...C:\Sandbox\Administrator\DefaultBox\drive\C\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox, the only folder listed is firefox.exe, the missing folder. I checked the path in other computers and they all showed the complete folders for FF program.
So what did I stumble upon?

No offense intended, but I don't think you've explained yourself clearly.. Even in this posting I quote here, you suggest you went to the Sandbox folder and found a firefox.exe folder..?????WA SCOTT wrote:Well, I still haven't given up on my problem and I'll be damned if I'm going to reformat. In any event, it's probably something simple that you have missed. Do me a favor. Forget about Sandboxie for the moment.. Just go into Windows Explore (right click start button, choose explore, choose your program files folder, then the Mozilla Firefox folder, find firefox.exe. Right click on it, choose "send to" and pick "Desktop -create shortcut". Then go to your desktop and right click on that shortcut and choose "Run Sandboxed". Tell us what happens.
This is where the confusion is .......

WA SCOTT wrote:That's correct, firefox.exe is listed in the folder by navigating with Windows Explorer

I'll try again to explain the following...
1. If I navigate through Windows Explorer, C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox, firefox.exe folder is listed along with other FF folders.
2. If I navigate through Windows Explorer, C:\Sandbox\Administrator\DefaultBox\drive\C\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox, firefox.exe is the only folder in the file.
3. If I right click and choose run any program from SB default window and browse to Mozilla Firefox, firefox.exe is not listed among other folders.
4. FF has always been installed outside of SB and run as default browser.
5. Could not run new shortcut from desktop, nothing happens, no hour glass or error message.

Then you don't need the firefox.exe that is in item #2 - in the sandbox. If that file is there, then I guess Auto/Delete is not being used, so who knows the condition of the reghive at this point. I would completely delete that sandbox.
I am taking this to be firefox.exe file, ok?WA SCOTT wrote:firefox.exe folder
Also this statement indicates that on the other computers, the files are in the sandbox .... but that is not the case, or it is? The reason I ask is because if those files are in the sandbox and Fx was installed into the sandbox - then maybe on this computer you also did that. But it was a long time ago. In any event ... as I said in the previous post, just delete that sandbox and start fresh.

That's what I was wondering, too. I hope that there isn't a folder called "Firefox.exe".MitchE323 wrote:I am taking this to be firefox.exe file, ok?WA SCOTT wrote:firefox.exe folder

With respect to (2), check please if you right-click Properties on the Firefox.exe file, is the creation date in 1986? If yes, then it means the file was deleted by a sandboxed program, and is the reason why, with respect to (3), a sandboxed program can't find the file.WA SCOTT wrote: 2. tzuk
Perseverance has paid off, after deleting the firefox.exe file, I am now able to run FF in SS as the default browser. Unable to address Tzuk's last post regarding creation date because I already deleted file. Before we put this problem to bed, could someone please try to explain to me what happened to cause this.
Again, many thanks for everyone's help.

If you open Windows Explorer sandboxed and delete a file, of course the real file is not going to be deleted. Sandboxie creates a zero-byte file corresponding to the deleted file, in that sandbox. That sandboxed file will have a creation date of 1986.Before we put this problem to bed, could someone please try to explain to me what happened to cause this.
That could explain why you had a firefox.exe in the sandbox, and one in the real system. Now, that doesn't explain all of the problems that you had ..... but if that is in fact what happened, it was most likely not a single action. There probably was other activity during that same computer use session, and whatever that activity was could be the cause of the other issues. This is all just guesswork though, and really does you no good. But are there other users of the computer? If so, maybe a mistake was made there.
