Bandicam 2

Post by Kitynsk » Sun Jul 27, 2014 7:35 am

Bandicam since version 2.x cannot record sandboxed apps/games. Can you tell me how to make a proper local application rule?

Are you running bandicam inside (along with the game to be recorded) or outside the sandbox?

Outside, but running inside doesn't help.

If I install bandicam outside the sandbox and run it inside alongside a game, it will record just fine.
I am using 3.76 though. Maybe the new "features" of the 4+ version is giving you problems?

If you see this Invincea, please answer! Thanks!

I have just registered because this problem is really horrible. I'm currently using Windows 8.1 in a dualboot system because I would like to see if there are any benefits, and the upgrade to Sandboxie 4.12 from 3.76 is from my view not one of these benefits. From weird glitches like that sometimes Firefox stays open in the background if I had downloaded huge files, and that the Sandboxie window seems to be removed if I would like to run an application from Sandboxies sandbox (really, why? UAC users were thankful for that), now Bandicam isn't really useable in conjunction with Sandboxie anymore. A non-sandboxed Bandicam is able to hook itself into Sandboxed games, but it won't be able to record anything. If I'm starting Bandicam in Sandboxie, it doesn't register the game, or only partially. It seems to work *somehow* if I'm clicking like 20 times out of the game window and into the game window again, but I'm absolutely not pleased with this. Please consider a fix for this in the future, thanks!

Have you tried running the Resource Access Monitor?

Can you provide a link to a free game that will demonstrate this as well as list the steps to reproduce the problem?

Thanks a lot for your answer Curt. I had switched back to Windows 7 in the meantime, but I'm interested to support the future of Sandboxie, so I had used my previously created backup of Windows 8.1 and will try to describe it as good as possible.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Download Bandicam: http://www.bandicam.com/downloads/ing/ (free version has no critical limits, so it's very fine)
2. Download this freeware game: http://prods.j-chaos.net/dynablaster_revenge.zip (homepage is: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=62926)
3. Install Bandicam outside of Sandboxie. After the first run, close Bandicam and run it inside Sandboxie.
4. Extract the zip package and run dynablaster.exe in Sandboxie. The game will start in a window
5. You will notice how Bandicam hasn't hooked itself into the game, there is no green number in the upper left corner. Please look at the "bandicam fail.jpg" attachment.
6. After clicking several times outside of the game to switch to the Bandicam window and back, it will then suddenly finally see the game. It isn't able to this alone. See "bandicam success.jpg" how it looks like. Sometimes it really needs around 20 - 30 clicks. No joke.

Here are the Resource Access Monitor logs:

Starting Bandicam in Sandboxie will show this log:

It's quite a lot, and I think one smaller log looks (at least for myself) more interesting. After reopening the Resource Access Monitor while the sandboxed Bandicam and game is open (while Bandicam hasn't hooked into the game), Sandboxie shows this log after Bandicam was finally able to see the game with my click workaround:

Code: Select all

Clsid -------------------------------
File/Key -------------------------------
Image -------------------------------

Ipc -------------------------------
Pipe -------------------------------
WinCls -------------------------------
WinCls O Shell_TrayWnd
WinCls X Progman
but in most cases it will show this:

Code: Select all

Clsid -------------------------------
File/Key -------------------------------
Image -------------------------------
Image c:\windows\system32\d3d9.dll
Ipc -------------------------------
Pipe -------------------------------
WinCls -------------------------------
WinCls O Shell_TrayWnd
Is this maybe the problem?

And by the way, my system information:

OS: Windows 8.1 (64bit)
CPU: 3059 Mhz x4 ( AuthenticAMD )
IE Version: 9.11.9600.17031
DirectX: version 9.0 or later Installed (4.09.00.0904)
VGA: AMD Radeon HD 6570

I'm sad to see and say that this problem is still present. I have tested it with an up-to-date Windows 8.1 installation again, and it's still the same. Also small glitches like that sandboxed programs are sometimes not closing when I'm pressing the X on the window. It's weird, and still my only main reason to stay on Windows 7, as Sandboxie 3.76 doesn't have all these small issues for me. I will need to test it with Windows 10 later, but I'm guessing it is similar with the problem there.

SBIE v3.76 is not supported. It lacks true x64 support. It's long since deprecated. Only SBIE v5+ works with Win 10.

v3.76 will not work with MS Windows after (if not before) Oct 2015 because Windows updates have broken SBIE. It lacks updates for 2+ years.

As for games, we recommend games be installed on your host machine, and then "run as sandboxed."
Not all games can run directly in the SB, this is even more of the situation as you go from 7 to 8.1 to Win 10 as MS makes it even more and more difficult for programs to run directly as sandboxed.

We focus on browsers / attachments etc to be directly installed into a SB. Especially in Win 10.

As for programs lingering. In v5.10 (and previous beta's) have addressed that. However, it's no uncommon for them to hang around for several seconds to several minutes per the Dev that is working on that part of the code. The "work" arounds in old version of SB seemed to close program quickly, but that was a "side affect" and the correct behavior with the new code to support Windows updates and Windows 10 works as it should.

Thanks a lot for your answer! Good to know. Yes, I am aware that 3.76 isn't supported anymore. I'm mainly talking about how to fix the issues which I (and the original poster of this thread) are having in all newer versions in Sandboxie. Also I forgot to say, all newer Sandboxie versions since 3.76 are acting the same way on Windows 7 for me. Bandicam doesn't recognize games, unless I'm clicking usually 20 - 100 times out and inside of the game window again. In some lucky cases, only 2 - 5 clicks are necessary. I am wondering, does it actually have to do that sandboxed processes are running as "ANONYMOUS-LOGON" and the "Untrusted" integrity level? Because that's a major chance since 3.76. I'm creating a new topic regarding this question, as it isn't just related to Bandicam only. http://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/view ... 17&t=22700

I have tested this with the newest versions of Sandboxie and Bandicam (5.12 and 3.2.1) and it seems that Bandisoft has changed something which has finally fixed this. It is still the same with older versions like Bandicam 2.3.1, so this looks like that it's mainly fixed thanks to Bandisoft (I don't know and can't see what has changed under the hood). I hope this won't be broken in a future update of Sandboxie. Thank you :)

Edit: I have tested this in a virtual machine with Windows 7 so far, I need to confirm that with real systems and Windows 10

Starting with version 5.18 this is broken again... *sigh* Could verify that easily on two Windows 7 x64 systems. 5.16 is fine.

Hello Tester100,

There were no changes in Sandboxie 5.18 that targeted Bandicam directly [https://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?Ver ... ges#v_5.18]. Thus, this might be something on their end.

I tried to open multiple classes and paths, but I was not able to get it to work. However, the screen capture feature seems to work without issues, you can set it to match your desktop's resolution and record that way.

Regards,
Barb.-
