Program Exclusion From Sandboxing

Post by PAlotta » Tue Mar 13, 2018 1:35 pm

I am running Sandboxie 5.22 x64 on a Windows Server 2008 R2. There is an Eaton 5S UPS attached via USB which is monitored by Eaton's Intelligent Power Protector (IPP). When I ran IPP today, I noticed that there was no communication between the UPS and IPP. After checking the hardware end and finding no faults, I noticed that IPP was sandboxed. IPP uses IE as the interface so IE is being sandboxed upon invocation by IPP. IPP also can no longer send alert e-mails through the server utility blat.exe.

The IPP command line is "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Eaton\IntelligentPowerProtector\mc2.exe" -launch "http://127.0.0.1:4679/default.html". Is there any way to exclude IE from sandboxing when invoked from IPP?

Or, is there a way to set up a sandbox for IPP that will allow it to function properly and access the USB ports and e-mail?

I ran the Resource Access Monitor for IPP and attached results.

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Hello PAlotta,

Have a look at the disable forced programs section in the Start Command Line entry:
https://www.sandboxie.com/StartCommandLine

You could also disable forced programs for X amount of time:
https://www.sandboxie.com/FileMenu#disableforce

Regarding making the software work in Sandboxie, I cannot really test it (I don't have required software/hardware and we do not directly support Windows Server), but here's what I recommend:
Go over these examples and start opening IPC paths, classes and COM classes as needed (mind you, you will be punching wholes in your system, so do this at your own risk):
https://www.sandboxie.com/ResourceAccessSettings#ipc

Regards,
Barb.-
